Nonapeptide-1 is a synthetic biomimetic peptide that acts as an α-MSH antagonist by binding to MC1R receptors on melanocytes. By reducing the signaling pathway involved in melanogenesis, it helps decrease melanin production and promote a more even skin tone. Nonapeptide-1‘s ultra-low IC50 (2.5 nM) makes it one of the most potent melanogenesis inhibitors available for cosmetic use. Its receptor-level specificity means it interferes with the hormonal trigger of pigmentation rather than enzymatic activity, providing clean, targeted brightening without melanocyte toxicity. Stable in aqueous formulations at pH 4.5–7.0. Produced via SPPS to ≥95% purity (HPLC + MS).
