The MHC class II allele I-Ag7 is the allele associated with diabetes in the non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse. I-Ag7 is also associated with spontaneous mouse models of arthritis and multiple sclerosis. The peptide mimotope mimics the structure of an epitope and therefore causes an antibody response similar to the one elicited by the epitope.
